At our meeting on May 18, we presented to Yvonne our blocks from the turquoise and gray challenge. Yvonne, also a member of the Boston Modern Quilt Guild, had volunteered to send our blocks, along with some of her own, to the “Quilts for Boston” project. All those at the meeting signed a card to accompany the blocks.
We also shared our “Inspiration from Media” challenge where we took a periodical (any periodical) and turned to page 28. We were to use something from that page as inspiration for a project.
Everyone shared their current projects during Show and Tell.
This spurred a discussion about piped binding and other forms of machine sewn bindings. Lynn demonstrated a faux piped binding technique she had learned recently and everyone was uber impressed and wanted to go home and give it a try.
The topic of English Paper Piecing came up and Candi pulled out a kit of hexagons she had been working on. She described how she longed to be the person that “loved to do hand work” but could not really love it. She already had her hexie flower centers and petals matched up and Yvonne suggested that we all take some and finish them up for her. Next meeting Candi will go home with lots of hexie flowers ready to applique on a quilt top. Now that’s the way to get a quilt jump started.
There are some very funny ladies in our guild and before we knew it 2 and 1/2 hours had passed. Time flies when you are having fun, doesn’t it?
We set our next meeting date for June 15 (the 3rd Saturday of every month) and challenged everyone to make a name tag. Please join us for lots of laughs and sharing, even if you don’t have your name tag done. We meet at Country Crossroads Quilt Shop, 799-3 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL, 904-276-1011.
