November Meeting Highlights

It was a short and sweet meeting, you can read the minutes here.

Ted announced (via text message) the new officers that will serve the JMQG starting January 2016 through December 2017. Since the nominations were unopposed, no election was needed. The officers are as follows:

President: Robin McCallister .

Vice President: Adele Rivers

Treasurer: Yvonne Wecker

Secretary: Sara David

Thanks to all four of you for volunteering. Hooray! We are ready for 2016!

Jaime won the old to new blocks BOM!

Ok, a couple of reminders before I show you photos from our fabulous show and tell. There will be no meeting in December, instead we will be having a Christmas party at Ruth’s house (thank you very much for hosting us, Ruth) on December 12th, starting at 6 PM. Please watch your e-mails for an RSVP and food sign-up list as well as directions to Ruth’s house.

We will have a filled stocking swap at the party, you can find the rules here. And for round robin participants, the big reveal will happen during the party. All rounds should be finished and finished tops need to be present at the party. If you are unable to attend the party, please coordinate to get the top there, and thank you! I am so looking forward to the reveal, it will be fantastic!

Ok, so back to November’s show and tell. I’d love to start with this little cute guy that Janette brought to show us made by a quilter who knew about another quilter 🙂 Adorable!

Angie made this beautiful notebook cover:

Jen showed us a quilt her momma (our own Bonita) made for her:

As usual, the amazing Ruth wowed us with not one, but two finished quilts (fronts and backs):

Joan showed us the clever growth chart she made for Ruth’s grandson:

And the gorgeous quilt she made  to pretty up an “ugly couch”, yes, that will do it!

Adele showed us the top she finished, gorgeous!

And lastly, our Quilt Con Charity quilt is quilted and waiting to be bound, yippee!

Wishing to see you all at the party, and if not, I wish you all happy holidays, Merry Christmas and a fantabulous 2016 full of quilty goodness.

November Meeting Reminder!

Just a friendly reminder that we will be meeting next Saturday, 11/21 at 10:30 at the South Mandarin Library branch.

A few things to note:

  • The something old, something new BOM.
  • The wave FMQ challenge.
  • Round robin participants, you don’t have to bring in your rounds since everyone should be adding their last round and no exchange is needed. All the tops are due on 12/12 and  will be revealed at our Christmas party.
  • Our nomination officer, Ted, will announce the new officers. There will be no elections since only one individual was nominated for each office.

See you all then!

December Stocking Swap

Hola Peeps and Peepettes…

At our October meeting I introduced the Secret Stocking Swap which will be held at our Holiday party on December 12th. The original thought was to have secret partners however many members felt that receiving their secret partner’s name @ our November meeting would not be sufficient time to put together their stocking so I have changed things up just a bit to accommodate more members. So we will have a drawing for the stockings. If you bring one then you will go home with one, so no need to wait! You can get started right now! 🙂

Stocking Swap Guidelines

  • Stocking must be handmade, with modern fabrics and a modern theme. (let your imagination run wild)
  • Stocking should be large enough to fit all your items in (approx. 10 in is the size I will be making)
  • Fill with 1 handmade item (ex. zippered pouch, mug rug, ornament, mini quilt, pin cushion, etc)
  • $10 limit on addtnl stocking fillers (ex. 3 fqs, 5 spools of thread, Chocolate, Candy, fabric pens, etc)
  • Limit one stocking per person

October Meeting Highlights!

It was Halloween AND the day of the Florida/Georgia game (yay Gators!) and we still managed to have 17 members and one visitor (hope you enjoyed your visit, Judy) at the meeting! We missed our absent regulars and hope to see you all in November. And just a reminder that the November meeting will take place on the 21st to accommodate for Thanksgiving.  The October meeting minutes are posted here.

Check out the gorgeous rainbow BOM blocks, Janette was the lucky winner.

Angie selected next month’s BOM: turn the old into new. Stay tuned for the detailed post.

Adele was a busy bee and brought in two beautiful and finished quilts to show (sew inspiring):

Jen announced the Secret Santa swap that we will be doing at the Christmas party on the 12th of December; detailed information will follow soon as well as the chance to sign up!

Ted has all the nominations submitted for our officers election that will be held during the November meeting. He will be creating a ballot that will be available to all paid guild members, as well as instructions for submitting an absentee ballot if you are not going to be able to make it to the November meeting.

Happy November y’all!
